Self Advocacy

Self AdvocacyThe BARC Self Advocacy program promotes independence and provides education to our Clients to better understand their rights. Through community service and active participation in groups like ARC Council and People First they learn how to become self-advocates.

We are active participants in People First of Kern County, a chapter of People First of California, Inc. whose Mission is to increase personal and economic independence and capabilities; defend civil rights; and eliminate prejudice and discrimination of people with developmental disabilities.

In addition we work to create rewarding social integration opportunities by offering trips and other activities where clients can socialize with each other and learn about other areas of the world.

For more information on Client activities and self-advocacy, please contact Jeremiah Heitman, Client Self-Advocacy Training Coordinator at 661-834-2272 ext. 287.
