Manufacturing
The BARC Woodshop began in 1961 as a vocational training program making stakes, lath and Christmas tree stands. Fifty years later the BARC Woodshop is still doing that and so much more. Now known as the Manufacturing department because of the diversity of our projects and occupying 26,000 square feet on the BARC Campus with 2 Clients and 6 staff, the department focuses on providing woodcraft-based programs for our Clients. Whether it is repairing pallets for major retail operations or custom design of distinctive wood products, our Clients learn a variety of woodworking, design and organizational skills.
Our contract with IKEA gives us the opportunity to disassemble and repair more than 3,400 pallets per week for the IKEA Distribution Center-Central Valley, California.
In a collaborative effort between Greenshops and BARC, we manufacture planters of all sizes and picture frames, designed by Greenshops and available for sale in their retail and online store. The products are all crafted from discarded pallet wood and/or used fence material donated by local companies that would otherwise have been thrown into green waste at the landfill.
Still in the Christmas tree stand business after all these years, we build stands for many independent Christmas tree retailers in Kern County
Manufacturing also produces products for individuals seeking to develop prototypes, producing products using recycled lumber and Client labor.
The Manufacturing department is always seeking new opportunities to serve the community and teach our Clients additional job skills.
