Material Recovery Facility

The Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is the newest exciting operation that has been started at Bakersfield ARC.  Construction was completed in early 2010 with funding provided by an EDA Federal Grant.  The MRF receives comingled recycled material from various sources—including curbside recycling, organizational recycling and events recycling. BARC Clients sort the various recyclable materials using state of the art equipment.  It has provided 24 new jobs for this highly underserved population.   Future industries include tire shredding (grant received in 2011 to put this venture in motion) and plastic flaking, which will fill the nearly 17,000 Industrial Training Facility to capacity with both industry and employees.
